Georgia's Christening

This past Saturday we had Georgia's baptism at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. It was a wonderful celebration and we appreciate so many of our family and friends who attended. It was a special day for Georgia and the ceremony was so wonderful. She was such a good baby and didn't make a peep the whole time. She was wide awake and just took it all in.

Just before the mass began - she had the worst case of hiccups! The Christening ceremony The holy water was very cold - she didn't even cry!

The Grandparents and Great-Grandparents

I took some pictures once we got home of Georgia in her christening gown. She was so happy to be home. Everyone came to our house and we celebrated with dinner and fellowship.

On Sunday morning we had brunch with the family.
Here she is playing with cousins Johan and Josef She loved to be held by her great-grandmother, Georgia, who she is named after. It was a long weekend for Miss Georgia -
she just pooped out after everyone left Sunday afternoon!
Here she is with her Popi. Here's a picture of her tree in her room. It is decorated to match her room colors and bedding. She has received lots of ornaments so we've got a large collection going for her to decorate her own Christmas tree each year. I think it turned out really cute and Georgia loves to look at it!

Johnna also got some great pictures of the weekend.
You can see them on her blog at: http://thewebpages.blogspot.com/

Georgia's First Stock Show & Thanksgiving

On Tuesday night of Thanksgiving week we had my sister, Judith, her husband, Chris, and their twin boys, for the night. This was the first time for them to meet Georgia. It was great to see them and the boys helped me determine how much my house was not "baby proofed". Good practice for later with Georgia.

We spent Thanksgiving Day here at home. The meal was served at Jacob's parents. There were around 27 people there! There was SO MUCH FOOD!

After lunch Georgia got to spend time with cousin Sam (Jacob's cousin Amy's baby). Sam is just about a month older than Georgia. We propped them up on the couch and they looked like little grown-ups. At one point Sam put his hand up on Georgia's shoulder - it was too cute!

We also watched the TAMU vs. t.u. game that night. I dressed Georgia up in her Aggie gear to help cheer our Aggies on. They did better than I thought they would and I think it was all due to Georgia's support. Ha!

We spent the weekend in Waco at the Fall Classic Show. It was Georgia's first official stock show and she handled it pretty well. We spent a few hours watching the baby prospect show and TCCA showmanship. My sister, Jennifer, was there with her family so Laurel came to hang out with us for a few hours. She did get to hold Georgia and she kept telling me that Georgia had grown so much since she had seen her and that she was so chubby! It was so funny and I always enjoy getting an earful of what she has to say.

I was so proud of my two neices and nephew. Emily June had Champion Limi in both rings, along with 3rd Overall Grand Steer in Ring A and 5th Overall in Ring B. John Thomas had Reserve Hereford in both rings and Laurel had Champion Simmental in Ring A and Reserve in Ring B (I think I got this all right). What an awesome day! I was also proud of all of those exhibitors we had there showing our cattle. They all worked really hard and I know it was hard to stay positive on such a yucky, windy day!!! We are so fortunate to have such awesome clients and we cherish the friendships we have made with them.

I have a few more pictures, but I am having the typical problems uploading them so hopefully I'll get them up later today!

First Week of December

I cannot believe the first week of December has already gone by. I can't get over how the season is changing and that is already time to decorate for Christmas! Next week Georgia will be three months old!!!
I have been working on decorating the house. I have pretty much finished up with everything. I've been trying to get most of it done since we will have company coming in next weekend for Georgia's Christening. I feel like it took me forever because once I was getting started I would have to stop (courtesy of Miss Georgia). My tree is a little different this year because I did it in red and gold. Still has some work to go, but it's getting there.

Jared, Antonio and I put up Christmas lights on the house yesterday. That was quite a project and I love how Jacob suggested we do it yesterday since he was conveniently out of town (ha!). It took us a while because even though we checked some of the lights they decided not to work when we got them up! Ugh! They turned out good though and we intend to decorate the entrance and Jacob's parents house before they get back from their Vegas trip on Tuesday evening. Hopefully it will be a nice surprise for them when they return home!

Some new things about Georgia.... she loves her pacifier! If she doesn't have it, she chooses to use her entire hand or thumb. So when I figure out she's doing this I put the pacifier because I'd rather her be addicted to the pacifier than the hand. Much easier habit to break since you can take the pacifer away but not the hand! Ha!

For a while I thought she didn't like her Boppy Lounger pillow anymore. However one day when she was irritable I got it back out and boy did she get happy! It's funny because it props her up and she can kick and swing her arms. She loves it and smiles constantly now when she gets to be on it. In fact, when I try to take pictures of her now it is hard to get her to sit still!

Another funny thing about Georgia is that during the night she has to be swaddled in order to sleep well. She can sleep from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. as long as she is swaddled. (We've attempted to get her to sleep unswaddled and she wakes up during the night - I guess she moves her arms and wakes herself up!) The funniest thing is that when she does wake up in the morning she is so happy when I undo the velcro tabs. She stretches her arms and just grins. It is too funny.

Weekend at Home

We spent this weekend just hanging around home. It was cloudy most of yesterday and today and it made us simply want to just stay in. I cooked chili on Friday night and worked on thank you notes and birth announcements all weekend (will I ever finish??). Georgia is beginning to really give us some big smiles. She gives a good smile at least once or twice a day. The rest of the smiles are just half of her lip. I got her going this evening and snapped a few, but by the time the picture was taken the moment was gone.

We are getting geared up for Thanksgiving here at home. It is a busy week with the Fall Classic coming up this next weekend so Jacob is swamped clipping calves. My sister, Judith, and her husband Chris, along with their twin boys, are coming to visit on Tuesday night before they go to our parents for Thanksgiving. I can't wait to see them - this is their first meeting with Miss Georgia. I can't wait to see the twins and how much they've grown.

I had problems getting pictures to load so here's the only one I could get posted!

Georgia's 2 Month Check-Up

Georgia had her two-month check-up today! I can't believe it's been two months since she was born. The appointment went well and she did great.

The verdict is in... She weighed in at 12 pounds 1 ounce. So she's almost doubled in her weight! Plus, she has grown three inches in length since she was born. Dr. Henderson laughed and said he could tell that she is definitely eating well. Georgia is in the 90-95th percentile for height and weight. Not surprising since both Jacob and I are tall!

She got her lovely vaccinations and let's just say she wasn't too impressed about that. A few high pitched screams and it was over quick. She got a sweet Miss Kitty pink bandaid on each thigh but I don't think she really cares. She just wanted her pacifier and her mommy to cuddle her. Poor thing! Glad it's over for now until her 4 month checkup in January where I think she gets even more shots. Ugh!

Time Flies

On Tuesday Georgia will be two months old! I can't believe that time has flown by so fast. I swear she changes every day. She is quite a load now and I am not sure what she weighs but if I had to guess I'm thinking at least 12.5 lbs. but I could be wrong. She has her 2 month check-up on Wednesday morning so we'll see what the scales read. Hopefully she won't be too grouchy because she'll be getting her vaccinations at her appointment. (I will have the baby tylenol on hand!)

I realize more and more each day how blessed we truly are. God has given us a precious gift and she is truly a miracle.

Jacob and I have been having long talks about the recent election, our child and life in general. Strange for us because we typically don't have these in-depth discussions. Things happen for a reason and God has a plan for all of us. We need to remember that life is short and we should really appreciate all God has given us. This week has made us realize this.

Hospital Trips

These are some pictures I've been meaning to post, but I couldn't get the pictures to upload. In the first two weeks of Georgia's life, I made an endless number of trips to get the poor child's blood taken. It was horrible! The first time was quite emotional, thank God my mom was with me. After that it got better for me (not for Georgia though!) and it is just so hard to see my precious baby in pain and there's nothing I can do! For her two-week check-up, Sandy went with me. I had to have more bloodwork done and fill out more paperwork...ridiculous. Thank goodness Sandy (Nani) was with me because Georgia started getting fussy just when I had to fill out all the papers.

I didn't get a picture of my doctor, Dr. Justin Gayle, at the hospital, so I had one taken when I went for my two-week appt. He was awesome and I am so glad he was our doctor!

Road Trip

Last weekend Georgia and I went on her first real road trip. Jacob's mom, Sandy, drove Georgia and I to Hico where we met my mom. This way it would be easier on us since I didn't feel quite ready to make the four hour drive on my own. It worked out great and Georgia traveled excellent! I was so proud of her.

We spent the weekend introducing Georgia to her great-grandparents. They all adored her and I was glad they could see her while she was still pretty small. Grandma and Papaw got to see her every day we were there and they were so good with her. Georgia would just look at them and really enjoyed them holding her. Maynard kept laughing at her hair and saying she was shorter than he expected even though we kept reminding him that she was only six weeks old! It was so funny to see him with her.
My parents (MorMor & Pop) couldn't get over how much Georgia had changed since they had last seen her. I was so glad to be able to make the trip out there. It means alot to me to have Georgia grandparents an important part of her life. Growing up, we were able to see all of our grandparents often and Jacob and I want the same for Georgia. We know she will love them all so much!!

Here's MorMor with Georgia and another one of Pop & MorMor after church Sunday. Georgia was hungry when we got home that day so she wasn't cooperating too much and was letting us know what she thought!

Happy Halloween!

Hope all of you had a great Halloween. Of course we didn't have any trick-or-treaters out here in the country! We didn't do much - Jacob and I asked his parents (Nani & Popi) to babysit for us and we went to Waco for dinner. I did take some pictures of Georgia in her little pumpkin outfit. This was right before we left and she was in quite a mood. I love the little pumpkin on her booty so I had to get a shot of that too!

Johnna met us in Hico on Monday after I spent the weekend at home. Here's a cute one of her & Georgia.

Georgia's Pictures

About three weeks ago I had pictures taken of Georgia. They just posted them online, so take a look at them. There are some really cute ones. She has already changed so much! Today is the first day that she is really trying to smile. I can't wait till she gives me her first big grin - I hope I have the camera close by!

First Mass

Finally after five weeks we were able to attend mass on Saturday night at St. Joseph's. Even though Jacob was out of town, I thought it would be easier to make it to Saturday night's mass than Sunday's since I never know what our nights are going to be like. She was an angel, seriously, and didn't make a peep the entire time. Here she is all dressed for her first church mass! (Special Thanks to Dana Wilson "Gemma" for this precious dress!)

AKS Halloween Meeting

Last night was the October meeting of the Alpha Kappa Sigma Sorority I am involved in. It is a great group of women and I have truly enjoyed being a part of this organization. This is my second year and it has allowed me to meet people in the community that I wouldn't have otherwise.
Georgia came with me because most of the ladies hadn't gotten to see her in person yet. We were asked to dress up for Halloween so I dressed up as a nerd (even though Jacob said that I didn't even need to dress up for that since I already was one - ha!) My favorite costume was worn by Linda Vickers - the "Undecided Voter". Pretty funny! We had a Halloween themed dinner and Georgia was a big hit in her adorable flower outfit given to her by our friends Larry & Melanie Nixon.

One Month Birthday!

Believe it or not, today is Georgia's one month birthday! Wow, how time has flown!! I can't get over how much she is changing every day. She is really filling out - her cheeks, legs and arms. She's definitely getting enough to eat! She's is spoiled rotten already, believe me. She's still having rough times at night, some nights are better than others. I am hoping that in a few more weeks she'll settle down and start sleeping better (everyone keeps telling me it gets better around 7 weeks or so). She would be very content if she could be held all day and get to sleep on my shoulder or chest durng the night.

Her umbilical cord finally fell off last week and we gave her a real bath for the first time. She didn't mind it too much until I went to work on her hair - then she got pretty upset. I had been giving her sponge baths and each time she liked it more and more. I feel pretty sure she'll be the same way on her baths. Here's a picture of her first bath...

First Night Out

Jacob and I had our first night out on the town since we became parents. Jacob's mom, Sandy, offered to babysit Georgia so that worked out super! Jacob and I went to Waco to the Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo to watch last night's rodeo performance. It felt very strange for the two of us to be out and about without the baby. It was nice to get a night out together and I think we really needed it. Even though we enjoyed it, we thought about her the entire time we were gone and I know I drove Sandy crazy calling to check in. It was harder than I thought it would be to leave her for more than just an hour or two, but I know it's good for Jacob and I to get out and do something together every once in a while!

How Georgia Pauline became Georgia Pauline!

I have had so many people ask and I failed to mention on the orginal post on how we came about Georgia's name.

My grandmother (my mother's mother) is named Georgia. I have always liked this name because you don't hear it much anymore and it is a name I have always thought was really pretty. Any time I mentioned that this name was a possibility, most people always thought it was a sweet name (other than my doctor!!). It is an older name and that was something I liked about it. Also, anyone I told this name to who had known a Georgia had said that the Georgia they had known was such a strong woman and very special! Plus, the one Georgia that I've known my entire life, my grandmother, is such a special person to me and so this seemed very fitting that our baby girl should be named Georgia (once I persuaded my husband for nine months). My grandmother had no idea that we were considering her name and she broke down in tears when I told her. It was a moment on the phone that I will never forget and it just reinforced to me that Georgia was the perfect name for our daughter.

And since we used a family name from my side, we thought that we should use a name from Jacob's family for the middle name. This was very challenging because there were two or three middle names we really liked, but we decided to go with Jacob's grandmother, Pauline, which was Jacob's dad's mother. She was a very special person to Jacob and passed away when Jacob was younger. We wish she could be here today to meet our precious Georgia.

For the entire pregnancy people would always ask what we were naming the baby. And of course we hadn't decided so I had to tell them. It seems like it is pretty popular now to tell everyone the name. I would have liked to have the name picked out prior, but there was something neat about deciding once we saw her. It was a special moment for Jacob and I to meet our baby girl and decide together what the best name would be for her. Now I can't imagine her being named anything else.

So that's how Georgia Pauline became Georgia Pauline!!!

Saturday with Georgia

Daddy is head over heels if you can't tell already...

Here's some sweet ones of Georgia during her afternoon naps today. She loves to sleep with her hands up by her head. It just cracks me up.

Meeting the Family

Georgia got to meet her cousins Laurel and Emily June, along with her Aunt Jennifer last night!

The Kelley's were on their way home from Dallas where they had been at the State Fair of Texas (see my earlier post on how they did with their steers!) and stopped by to see us and meet their newest cousin. Georgia just took it all in and was very willing (as always) to let them hold her all night.

Meeting Gemma

Finally - Gemma meets Georgia!

Our very special friend, Dana Wilson, finally got to meet Georgia on Friday. Dana had said long ago that she was the third appointed grandmother, so she decided that she wants Georgia to call her "Gemma".

It was so great to see Dana. She and her family are so special to us. She's already planning Georgia's summer trips to Carrizo Springs to spend time with Gemma!
